Arcata Police Log February 22, 2005

Arcata Police Log February 22, 2005: "# Tuesday, February 1 12:11 a.m. Two million years of societal evolution culminated at the portal of a Ninth Street tavern, where a bartender and doorman were menaced by three men wielding sticks. There was some pushing, then some scampering, then some arresting on public drunkenness charges. The sticks were released on their own recognizance.
# 1:18 a.m. A pair of motorized feebs bred in Huntington Beach allegedly tried their hand at a form of motorized baking, spinning donuts in the Plaza's lawn. With the troubled town square's track-torn turf behind them, they raced southbound on State Route 255, only to be pulled over and arrested on a DUI charge and a warrant near Samoa. Installed in the Pink House, the boozy boyos had time to contemplate the $745 vandalism bill headed their way.
# 1:44 a.m. Three men sprayed water-soluble red paint on a freeway overpass. Police told them to find something better to do.
# 10:24 a.m. A man who roams the streets occasionally yelling at passersby is now said to be in possession of several knives and even swords, and is known to frequent City Hall. perhaps not coincidentally, fresh physical barriers now confront those with business in the lobby.
# 3:55 p.m. Men in a car in the 900 block of Fifth Street were seen using a syringe and passing a bong. Police found the car, but the self-medicators weren't around.
# 6:08 p.m. A Ninth Street resident wasn't happy to find a sleeping bag stashed by her porch, but at least there was a group of raggedy travelers staring at her from across the street. Police picked up the bag.
# 7:32 p.m. The term 'ideal customer' didn't exactly apply to the smelly drunk in a trenchcoat at a Plaza sports bar. He was go-awayed.
# 8:03 p.m. You don't have to be from Huntington Beach to commit acts of genius with a pickup. Take the Brainiac who parked his truck across the sidewalk and partially on the walking trail on Diamond Drive, for example. Please."

New IPods, Lower Prices From Apple

New IPods, Lower Prices From Apple: "Aside from adding the camera link to the iPod Photo models, Apple lengthened the battery life of both Minis. Apple says the Minis can now operate for up to 18 hours on a battery charge. Apple has also changed the color lineup slightly for the Mini--retaining silver, dropping gold, and replacing the prior shades of blue, pink and green with 'more vibrant' ones, Joswiak said.

In addition, Apple appears to have dropped its 40GB iPods in favor of 20GB, 30GB and 60GB models. The 40GB iPod and iPod Photo models disappeared from the company's Web site Wednesday morning shortly after the new iPod models were announced.

All four new iPods are available now, while the iPod Camera Connector will come out in late March."

Lifehacker

LifehackerWriter Felix Salmon uses a voice recording attachment for the iPod - the Griffin iTalk - to conduct interviews.

Using the iTalk over other voice recorders buys you all the goodness that comes with the iPod: backup to your computer, voice file time-stamping, interview organization with playlists and tagging, as well as huge amounts of storage (20GB iPod = 300 hours of talking.) If you’re not a frequent interviewer, record a professor’s lecture, a grocery list, or baby’s first laugh with the iTalk. Of course, interviewing ain’t just for journalists anymore - how about recording a conversation with Grandpa about your family history? The iTalk will set you back $40 direct from Griffin.
